Simon Mifsud’s Garland Surgical is an exciting, innovative med-tech company founded in 2022 – quickly followed by the establishment of a Maltese subsidiary in 2023. Based in Broadwas on Teme, Garland Surgical has already garnered significant interest from the innovation sector, securing a UKRI Innovative Smart Award prior to joining BetaDen.
Garland Surgical’s main focus is on extending the lifespan of total hip replacements through its new ‘Malthip’ Technology. Currently, a total hip replacement is expected to last for 20-25 years, but with new technology, Garland hopes to push this number to 50 plus years. The Malthip’s unique design leads to a massive reduction in general wear and tear and offers young people in need of hip replacements a true ‘hip for life’.
Simon hopes to match up his 30 years plus experience in the field of Orthopaedic Medical Devices with the support of BetaDen to identify and address weaknesses, cement Garland in the local innovation network and optimise their existing business strategies as the company continues to pursue growth.
